my Hero
Reg was my boyhood hero in the 60's. I was an overweight asthmatic "dumpling" when I first saw photos of Reg along with his range of weights and accessories sold at the OK Bazaars in Durban. He was in Durban and Pietermaritzburg to promote his products and do shows with Larry Scott later in around 1965 when I first shook his hand as an awestruck 12 year old. My life was changed forever! I started training and still do now at age 60 with fond memories of Reg in his movies and various photos. I met him early on two mornings at Robin Stumpke's gym in Durban in the late sixties and again at Sharper Image in Cape Town in 1993. Without Reg's influence I don't know what my life would have been like! He was a thorough gentleman and poised with enormous strength under his control. Amazingly he remembered me almost 30 years after last meeting him. Hearing of his death today, saddens me greatly because the world was a better place because of Reg.

Remembering Reg
Mareon, Jon Jon and Family,
I think of Reg every day. Whenever we met, however briefly, it made my day. As an 18-year-old I met him at the stage door of the Palladium in 1956 when he was guest posing. At another time when I was living in Chelsea, I met him in London's Kings Rd. So many times since, at the Arnold, the Olympia and other get-togethers. We corresponded for 45 years. What a man - What a memory!!

Bodybuilding fan
Dear Mr. Park: I've been following bodybuilding since the early 60's and I still maintain the greatest physique stars ever were Grimek, you, Steve Reeves and Bill Pearl. These bloated, steroid-filled monstrosities of today no longer care for beauty of physique, but only monstrous size. What a sad day for "bodybuilding". Anyway, hope you are in fine health and know that even today you are still one of my idols. My very best to you.

We miss Reg
Every time we walk in to our office we see your picture on the wall and we miss you and grieve that we will never have the pleasure of your company again. But we do have many precious memories and that gives us comfort, because those memories are a gift and they can never be taken away. You are with us in spirit all the time. In loving memory

Thinking of you
I will be thinking of you & Reg tomorrow but you know, there's hardly a day goes by when he doesn't come into my thoughts. He was my first real hero way back in 1952 when I was a 9 year old kid. I made my own weights then out of house bricks & a broomstick. The broomstick broke in the middle & nearly caused me a nasty injury, potentially ruining my future love-life. I think Reg might have smiled if I had told him that. Then it was back to the chest expander until I could afford proper weights. I wanted to be like Reg. My parents thought that I was nuts. In the centre of Birmingham where I lived there was a well-known market area called the Bull Ring. Sometimes street artists performed there. One was a "strongman " whose piece de resistance was to lie on a bed of nails holding a large paving slab on his chest while a member of the audience was invited to break said slab with a sledge hammer. When I was doing Bench Press on a wooden banana box, out in the backyard in the freezing cold with my make shift weights all I would hear from the kitchen window was "come in you barmy bugger, (escuse me but it's true) you'll catch your death of cold" .That was my dad. Then my mother would chime in with "you'll end up on a bed of nails in the Bullring". They thought I was mad. They did have a point. Calling me "wiry" was being kind. I really didn't have a muscle to speak of anywhere. My only answer to them was "I want to be like Reg Park" Trouble is nobody could be like Reg but I tried in my own way. He was an impossible act to follow but it was well worth trying. He was the best & i was very privileged to meet him briefly a few times.
All the very best
Love
Mike Payne (micklimerick on the forum).

Thanks Again.
As I stated earlier, I never met Reg. Arnold considers Reg Park to be his hero and I have been fortunate to meet Arnold a few times.
After studying the history of Bodybuilding, I became fascinated by Reg Park and I certainly see where he was a hero to Arnold and countless others.
I want to thank the Park Family for maintaing this website. Hope to meet Jon Jon again in Columbus this March.

Short Man Class Mr Kenya 1962
Reg, Marean and Jannie Graf were my guests in Nairobi Kenya on their way to the Universe in London in 1961. The two men worked out in our gym, we took Marean for a game park tour, then Reg judged our lbodybuilding competition, and did a demo press-behind-neck with 230 lbs. I recently retired to Vienna, after 45 years in the the fitness business. Reg was a great inspiration.
The second part of this message is that during my period in fitness, I studied and certified in various naturapathic/alternative medicine protocols. Today we are privileged to have available, privately published, The Cure and Prevention of All Cancers, 2007, H R Clark PhD N. We learn of the identified causes and pathways of all cancers. We therefore now know the cures. If that were too late for Reg, then Dr Clarks 1995 works would have done the trick. There is also markerted a black salve, using DMSO to take various powerful anti-cancer herbs deep into all skin tumors and keratosis, leaving a deep tumor free crater, that later heals over, leaving a scar. I use this salve for keratosis, sun damage. I have cured many so called terminals with Clarks protocols. A shame that most Western countries censor news of this science. It took Vitamin C 400 years to be accepted as the scurvy cure, so cancer??? Maybe as a service to humanity and in memory of Reg, the family let others know that cures DO EXIST. The oncologists` false hope, junk science and snake oil jibes are no lnger valid. I have no financial interest in the works of Dr Clark.

memories and alternative cures.
Reg came throught Nairobi n 1961(?) as my guest, on the way to the Mr Universe, trained in my gym, judged a bodybuildling contest we arranged and did a seated press behind neck with 230 lbs. His lovely wife and and one of his younger bodybuilder gym members, Jannie Graf, accompanied him. Sad to see him leaving us at a young 79. It is such a shame that alternative medicine is not promoted in SA. The Cure and Prevention of All Cancers, 2007, H R Clark PhD ND would have saved his life. if that was published too late, Dr Clarksr 1995 works on cancer cures would have prevented it. This is not junk science, snake oil, nor false hope, but identified causes and pathways using the author- scientist`s resonance comparator device. Maybe you reading this can save a life, maybe your own. I have done many saves, even with so called terminals, this despite being threatened with prosecution by the medical association of the Country where I later lived. Being in the fitness business till Ii retired in 2003, I often remembered back to Reg`s visit and his inspiration. In his next incarnation, may he continue to help others to great health.

As a 13 year old skinny little 110 pound kid, you along with Steve Reeves and Clarence Bass were my idols. I wanted to look like you guys. And because of you fellows, I am now 71 and am still pumping iron 2-3 days a week. aThat's a long time and I cannot ever repay the debt I owe you all. Rest in peace. Dax Ferguson

Reg Park a fantastic person, will always be in my thoughts
I first saw Reg at a posing exhibition in the early 1960’s, in Durban, while I was still at high school. It made a lasting impression on me.
In 1993, while training one morning, at the Sharper Image gym in Bryanston, I heard a voice bellow out “I look so good cause I eat so good”, it was Reg Park.
I eventually had the opportunity to train with him, during his early morning workout sessions.
It was an honour and a privilege to know Reg, he was a true gentleman and legend in his time. He was and still is an inspiration to me. He is sadly missed, but will never be forgotten.

Memorial Service
To The Park Family,
I haven't personally been on this site for a while, but wanted to tell you what beautiful pictures that were taken during the Memorial. To what it's worth, I often replay Reg Park's interview on Bodybuilding Weekly radio show. That alone provides all the source of inspiration that I need in my own life. He is the kind of person that no one can ever forget. He's easy to admire.
I've never met any of you, bit it doesn't lessen my best wishes in that all is well for each of you. And that there are still lessons in life that we have yet to learn. Therefore, life is still worth living. When I sometimes get stricken by the loss of my own beloved father, I remind myself that he himself had to live his own life through tragedies as I do now. And he certainly succeeded. I imagine the same in Reg Park's monumentally fulfilled life, too!

Deepest Condolences for Reg Park's family
I wish to mention my deepest condolences and sympathies for the family of the late Reg Park. He was truly one of the greatest bodybuilders as well as strongmen of all time, an exciting actor especially in Hercules films, a great and kind person, intelligent, and a great friend and mentor to Arnold Schwarzenegger. He will remain always "Reg the ledge", the legendary Reg Park.

Former Swimmer
In 1969 during my swimming years for Zoo Lake
Swimming Club I became good friends with Jeunesse ,Jon Jon and welcomed to the home of Mareon and Reg.
Just after my father pased away we met Reg at a swim meet at Ellis Park, he came over as soon as he saw me, my mother and younger brother, spoke with compasion saying if we ever needed any help with anything to call on him.
My mother who now is 92 remembers him to this day , that is the kind of impact he had on people.
I have been privilged to have met Reg on a few occasions after that and will never forget the inspiration this remarkable man gave me.

Always in my thoughts
Although it has been a few months since Reg's passing, I think of him almost every day when I go to gym. He was so much larger than life and always encouraging to everyone, whether he was training them or not.
Mareon, you are very often in my thougts too and I hope that you will find peace and acceptance in the fact that Reg was so much loved and respected all over the world.
We were all lucky to have known him, but you are especially lucky to have loved him and to have been loved by him.
Peace and happiness to you and your family now and always.

Fondest Memories
I am not in the Bodybuilding circle, but in the "Entertainmant World",in Paris France.I went to school with his son Jon Jon ,& I met Reg , Marion, and Jeunesse, when I was but a child; Reg was such an impressive image for a kid,of my age,,I can still hear his voice ,when he came to school swimming events,to encourage Jon Jon;;His size and voice would overpower everyone, and when he shouted GO JON JON GO,,,everyone looked over to where he was and believe me,,It was a very powerful image ,that I'm sure people would not forget;;But not only, was his size impressive,,Reg,was a great guy,and even though I'm talking about 35 years ago,I will always remember his kind voice, and the way he showed respect when talkin to you,Its not very seldom in ones life, that people make such impressions, and its not because I was in the same class as his son,Jon Jon,that I am saying this,Its Reg that left me with this print of what a father should be,His love for his family was very predominant, and you knew it when you met him and his family; And I had that Honour.meeting him,and when I learnt of his passing,,I felt sad ,but happy to have met such a MAN.
My sincere condolences to his wife ,children and family.

Still hard to believe.
While looking at a past strongman site I read for the first time of the death of a true great Reg Park. I have always felt Reg was the finest bodybuilder and strongman ever combined. I still never could figure how Arnold was able to beat him in 1970. I always felt that was a set-up. I have the picture of Reg hanging in my gym sandwiched between Arnold and Dave Draper. Reg outshines the other two-no questions asked. I also have a framed shot of him with Paul Wynter from his "Contest Training" article. I can rember artcles in the mags like "Park on Calves" or his thoughts on contest training. I once read when Reg wrote about using "Nivia" oil several weeks before a contest....I also starting using it -that was over 30 years ago.
My true feelings go out to his wife, daughter and son. When I get home from work I will be telling my wife about Reg's death and I know she too will be saddened. Like John Grimek we always thought Reg would live on forever but death is another part of life. I will put on some of his movie tapes this weekend out of respect. How many remember that in "Pumping Iron" it was Reg who was the MC during the contest.
Thank you Reg for everything, You are a main reason this sport is what it is today...you will never be forgotten.

He was one of the most gracious men I ever met taking time to speak to me like he had known me for many years. Dear Reg Park Family,
My condolences for the sad news about Mr. Reg Park. About 4 years ago I was received by him and his wife in his house in South Africa. At that time I was with my Karate Master Stan Schmidt(who was Reg Park student). He was very kind to me and gave me one T-shirt with Reg as Hercules on it.
May God bless you Reg.

I cannot even begin to tell you how devestated I was to hear about Reg. I surfed the internet today to try and find Reg to tell Reg that after all these years, I still pass on everything that he taught me. As a young girl living in Johannesburg, Reg was my mentor and every time someone in the gym ponders about my knowledge of bodybuilding, I am always so proud to say that I worked with and was trained by the very best! I have managed to help and touch so many peoples lives because of Reg. I am so sorry that it took me so long to eventually want to thank him. To the family, you may not rememeber me but I worked for Reg at Central Gymnasium many many years ago. May you all be blessed abundantly in 2008 and may you all grow from strength to strength!I will continue to pass on everything that Reg taught me and I know that my sons will pass that knowledge on to their children. It was an honour to work for Reg and His legend will go on forever.
