Arnold Classic 2007

Finally, the chants begin “Ar-nold, Ar-nold” and the man of the hour appears, looking better than ever in a suit and purple tie. He thanks everyone for being here, says how great Columbus is and how unbelievable it is how much The Classic has grown in 13 years. He also thanks his wife Maria, noting how great it is to have such a wonderful supportive partner, and finally his fans! Then in the most memorable moment, Arnold presents the lifetime achievement award to the man who inspired him to be the greatest bodybuilder and be a movie star, Reg Park.”I wouldn’t be here today…if this man wouldn’t have inspired me the way he did. This man looked so huge, when he did the lat spread I thought the curtains were closing. I was so impressed with what I saw, I immediately went to the gym and started working out. I trained exactly the way he did… and of course the rest is history.”

He goes on to say that besides being impressed by his size and movie star status, he met Reg Park’s family and saw that he was the most loving husband and father, and today he is celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary. Because of his lifetime committment to bodybuilding and constant inspiration, Arnold gives him this Lifetime Achievement award.

Accepting it, Reg says, “This is not a talk show, it is a see show, so I’ll let you get on with the show and thank you for tolerating all the blurb that Arnold gave you about me.” – Reported by Gilllinator.

22 November, 2007

It is with immense sadness that we have to inform Reg’s friends, fans and supporters around the world that Reg passed away this morning, 22 November 2007 at 10h15 after a brave battle against the metastatic melanoma that caused him such suffering this year.

Reg’s last months with us were spent at home surrounded by a sea of love and good wishes from his family and friends around the globe. Reg had such a huge heart, such great dignity and grace and he was so humble. He continually expressed his most sincere thanks and love to all who supported and loved him throughout his life.

The family again thank all of you who sent so many beautiful messages of support throughout his illness.
The Legend will continue to live in our hearts and our souls, forever. The world was a richer place thanks to this beautiful and true man who has taught so many of us so much about life and love and what it means to be human.

Thank you to those of you who have generously donated to the Reg Park Foundation which we hope will continue Reg’s legacy by offering disadvantaged youth access to sport and fitness.

The memorial  will take place on Sunday afternoon at 16:30, 25 November 2007. Reg did not want wreaths of flowers so if you feel you would like to send something please go to www.trees.co.za  to plant a tree in his name or donate to his foundation.

Please post all your messages via Reg’s Guestbook

With Love and gratitude from the Park Family,

Mareon, Jeunesse, Jon Jon, Frik, Michelle, Jhana, Kaya, Tamarac, Travis, Trent, Savanah, Johnny, Bonnie, Taryn, Nicole, Chelsea, Kyle, Douw and Garth.13 November, 2007

Reg is happy to be at home and has taken the time to talk to all of his family about life and  after life. He is still enjoying  the wonderful meals cooked by the love of his life, Mareon, and has some good moments. Reg and Mareon just celebrated their 55th anniversary.

He is frustrated with the illness and at times  cannot understand what has happened in his body. We are frustrated that there is not much that can be done about this metastatic melanoma disease as in every other way Reg is the Reg we have always known, strong minded, positive, inspirational and making everyone who comes into his space feel special. Again we thank you all for your messages which we read to Reg daily.

Much love and respect for you all, his daughter, Jeunesse.

The Park Family is sad to inform you that Reg has been in ICU over the past week and that Reg will be taken home today. There is nothing further that can be done for him there and we want him to be comfortable and surrounded by his family and friends. This is a very difficult time but we would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all who have been calling and sending messages of love, good wishes, and prayers over the past months. Reg certainly has the ability to bring out the best in everybody who comes into his sphere.  This has been evident over the last months with the many medics that have been attending to Reg, whose spirits are instantly lifted when they are around him.
We thank you all and will keep you posted, but Reg’s time is short. Please use Reg’s
